-으려면

V+ (으)려면 This indicates a hypothetical situation where someone has the intention to do something.(if [subject] want to do~) The following clause is usually in the imperative form or expresses necessity with phrases such as ‘need to’ or ‘have to.’

술을 사려면 신분증이 필요해요.

If you want to buy alcohol, you need an ID.

한국에서 화장품을 구경하려면 ‘올리브영’에 가보세요.

If you want to browse cosmetics in Korea, go check out ‘Olive Young’.

일을 빨리 끝내야 해요. 주말에 놀려면요.

• ‘-으려면’ is a connective ending formed by combining ‘-으려’(intention) and ‘-면’(if). In the same way, ‘-으려’ can combine with other endings, such as:
• –으려면 (if [subject] want to~)
• –으려니까 (since [subject] want to~)
• –으려는데 ([subject] was/were about to~, but/and…)

These forms are also can be used with 하다 verb, as in ‘으려 하면’, ‘으려 하니까’, ’으려 하는데’.
