-대(래), -냬, -재, -래

V/Adj/이다, 아니다 + -대(래), -냬, -재, -래 This is used when relaying information you heard from others. (I heard ~/[someone] said~)

Basically, it’s a shorter way to say “~다고(라고), ~냐고, ~자고, ~라고 + 들었어요/했어요/말했어요.”

이번 겨울은 따뜻하다고 들었어요.

= 이번 겨울은 따뜻하대요.

I heard this winter is warm.

이제 한국 비자 받는 것이 더 어렵대요.

They say getting a Korean visa is more difficult now.

토니 씨는 회사원이래.

I heard/People say, Tony is an office worker.

치히로는 점심 안 먹을 거래.

Chihiro said she's not going to eat lunch.

(안 먹을 ‘것’ is noun form, so you can put -래)

언니, 엄마가 집에 몇 시에 오냐고 물었어.

=언니, 엄마가 집에 몇 시에 오냬.

Sister, mom asked what time you're coming home.

사장님, 외국인 손님이 김치가 많이 맵냬요.

(restaurant) Owner, the foreign guest asked if kimchi is very spicy.

닝닝 씨, 토니 씨가 오늘 밖에 날씨가 덥냬.

Ningning, Tony is asking if the weather outside is hot today.

형, 아빠가 내일 낚시 가자고 해.

= 형, 아빠가 내일 낚시 가재.

Brother, dad said, let’s go fishing tomorrow.

수지 씨, 토니 씨가 오늘 같이 영화 보재요. 같이 갈래요?

Suji, Tony asked, let’s watch a movie together today. Do you want to go together?

누나, 엄마가 오늘 일찍 오라고 말했어.

= 누나, 엄마가 오늘 일찍 오래.

Sister, Mom said to come early today.

선생님이 숙제 빨리 내래.

The teacher said to submit your homework quickly.

경찰관이 여기로 가지 말래요.

The police officer said not to go this way.

Basically, it follows the conjugation rule of indirect quotation from the previous page. Only the end part of the expression changes.
