• -에(to [place]) vs -으로(to [place])

-에(specific)	-으로(direction)
서울에 가요. O Go to Seoul. (specific destination)	서울로 가요. O Go toward Seoul. (direction of the way) or, still it can be “Go to Seoul.”
의자에 앉아요. O Sit on the chair.	의자로 앉아요. X → Since -으로 indicates directionality, it is incorrect when referring to a specific place to sit.

In fact, -으로 carries many different meanings, similar to how the English word 'as' or ‘for’ conveys many different meanings. For now, remembering just this much is sufficient :) As you continue studying, try to develop a feel for how -으로 is used in different contexts.
