topic 은/는

Noun + 은/는 When the topic marker '은/는' is attached after a noun, that noun becomes the topic of the sentence.

저는 수지예요.

I am Suzy.

엄마는 한국 사람이에요.

My mom is a Korean person.

선생님은 여자예요.

The teacher is a woman.

• 저는(honorific ‘I’)/나는(informal ‘I’)/너는(informal ‘You’) is often shortened to ‘전/난/넌’.

저는 수지예요.

=전 수지예요.

'이것은(this)/그것은(that)/저것은(that over there)' is often shortened to '이건/그건/저건'.

이것은 컵이에요.

=이건 컵이에요.

• 은/는 marker can be omitted.

엄마 한국 사람이에요.

• ‘받침’ refers to the final consonant that appears at the bottom of a Korean letter.
