Adverbs are words that modify sentences, adjectives, or verbs. They typically appear before adjectives or verbs.

Among adverbs, there is a particularly important one called "안(not)." In Korean, you can make a negative sentence by putting "안(not)" in front of verbs or adjectives. Other functional adverbs like "잘" and "못" are also frequently used.
잘 | 안 | 못 |
well, good at it,
usually | don’t | can’t |
김치를 잘 먹어요.
I eat kimchi well.
김치를 안 먹어요.
I don't eat kimchi.
김치를 못 먹어요.
I can't eat kimchi.
- When using adverbs with -하다 verbs, you must split the verb and place the adverb between the noun and '하다'.
숙제해요 → 숙제 안 해요 (안 숙제하다 X)
운동해요 → 운동 많이 해요
운전해요 → 운전 잘 해요
For -하다 adjectives, however, you can simply place the adverb directly before the entire adjective.
건강해요 → 안 건강해요 (건강 안 해요 X)
행복해요 → 진짜 행복해요
똑똑해요 → 너무 똑똑해요
