-은 편이다

V/Adj/이다, 아니다 + 는/ㄴ/은 편이다. This indicate that something tends toward or belongs to a certain category (be on the ~ side, tend to~, pretty ~).

‘편’ is a noun meaning 'side, team, group' and you can think of it as being modified by the preceding V/Adj.

저희 오빠는 키가 큰 편이에요.

My brother is on the tall side.

저는 공부를 잘 하는 편이에요.

I tend to be good at studying (do relatively well in my studies).
