When -으려고 is combined with 하다, they form the expression -(으)려고 하다, which functions like a helping verb to indicate the speaker’s intention. (trying to~, thinking to~, about to~)

곧 학교에 가려고 해요. I'm about to go to school.

다이어트 하려고 해요. I'm trying to diet.

• Conversationally, the forms -을려고(을려구), -을라고(을라구) can also be used.
